Chen Sicheng: Hong Kong films grew up with me. "Tang Tan" contains feelings of Hong Kong films.

Special feature of 1905 film network "For our generation of creators, the impact of Hong Kong films, especially those in the golden age, is just like Shakespeare’s plays and Jin Yong’s literature, which are buried in our blood and cannot be separated."

The director’s memories of Hong Kong and Hong Kong movies are those hot summer days spent in the video hall, the eldest brother who was playing drunken boxing in the video, and even more, he opened up a "dream-like" place that he imagined infinitely.

After becoming a director, Chen Sicheng has integrated his deep feelings for Hong Kong films into his own creation. The former "Hong Kong film fan" has become a new inheritor of Hong Kong film culture. The "Tang Exploring the Universe" initiated by him not only left traces of classic Hong Kong films in many bridges, but also specially invited his childhood idols to join in.

In the latest program of "Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Hong Kong’s Return to the Motherland Together", Chen Sicheng also shared his unchanging love and pride for Hong Kong movies from fans to film creators.

Self-proclaimed "shadowy" creator "Hong Kong movies grow with us"

In the 1980s and 1990s, Hong Kong films experienced a golden period of vigorous development, and numerous excellent films emerged one after another. As a generation who grew up with Hong Kong films, Chen Sicheng bluntly said that the influence of Hong Kong films on the filmmakers he belongs to is "innate", "deeply rooted in the blood" and "inseparable".

In his memory, all his childhood happiness comes from the small video hall on the street in his hometown of Shenyang. "At that time, we began to have more ways to get movie resources. During the summer vacation, my leisure and entertainment way was to rent videos and take five or six thick discs home."

Like all the fans who came into contact with these classic works in the golden age of Hong Kong movies, Chen Sicheng was "hungry" to learn about that "dream-like place" through one story after another.

Jackie Chan’s kung fu classic, a series of comedies, the director’s series and so on … … These works, which influenced the whole of Asia and even the whole world at that time, were a cultural baptism for young people who loved movies.

"Just like Shakespeare’s plays and Jin Yong’s literature, Hong Kong movies have a great influence on me in the field of film and television creation." Since then, Chen Sicheng has also become a "loyal Hong Kong movie fan".

The filmmakers of the two places communicate with each other. "Hong Kong movies are the pride of China people."

Counting Chen Sicheng’s works after the director’s transformation, it is not difficult to find out the deep feelings of this "shadowy" creator for Hong Kong movies, no matter from the plot or the film creation level.

For example, Tang Ren and Qin Feng, partners in the series, were inspired by Plan A to some extent. Tang Ren, who plays the role of Tang Ren, is not only a punch in the film, but also a comedy in the plot. This kind of character setting is influenced by the kung fu comedy film led by Jackie Chan.

Not only Chen Sicheng, but also many directors in Hollywood and overseas, you can also find the traces left by Hong Kong films in his works.

In order to satisfy his long-term wish as a movie fan, Chen Sicheng also "used" the identity of the director to seek a wave of benefits for himself: "My greatest advantage is that I can cooperate with my former idols and predecessors through the creative process."

In the first directorial debut, Chen Sicheng invited his favorite idol; Previously released, they also made surprise appearances in eggs, and Yuan Wah and Qin Pei also appeared in this series of works.

These dream linkages are the epitome of the active cooperation between Hong Kong and mainland filmmakers. Nowadays, more and more Hong Kong directors are beginning to try different types of films, and stories from the mainland are also touching more Hong Kong compatriots through movies.

On the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland, the film exchanges between the two places have become increasingly close. Hong Kong films also promote the diversified development of China films with their unique style.

Chen Sicheng bluntly said that it is difficult and unnecessary to distinguish between Hong Kong and the Mainland. Tsui Hark and other directors have made great breakthroughs in the creation of new mainstream films: "I think this is a particularly good form of learning from each other and learning from each other’s strengths."

In the future, Chen Sicheng hopes to have more opportunities to inherit the best qualities of Hong Kong films and Hong Kong filmmakers, as well as their imagination of genre films. "The return of Hong Kong is the return of all cultures, but also the return of movies. The pride of Hong Kong is the pride of all China people." Chen Sicheng said, "I hope that through our joint efforts, Hong Kong films will be created again and Chinese films will be even more brilliant."
